This week’s Kickstarter Game of the Week is Stone Daze by Tyto Games.
I’ve gotta say, the theme for this is what initially grabbed my attention. Rival clans of cavepeople, clubbing each other on the heads for territory? C’mon, sign me up! There’s even a wolly mammoth on the game box!
The gameplay for Stone Daze is a lot of fun, too – it’s got simultaneous action programming, which is difficult to do right, but the magnetic control panels look fun and easy to use. The core of the gameplay reminds me a bit of the classic pen-and-paper cafeteria favorite, Tanks, which I used to play as a kid. For those of you who never played, you essentially set up your “tanks” by drawing them on a piece of paper, and then fold it over to try to blow up your opponents’ tanks. Of course, Stone Daze is a much meatier game, with secret action selection and much fancier components. Stone Daze captures that same quick, tactical, competitive fun that Tanks had, but the addition of obstacles, character movement, and special abilities for each of your seven different cavepeople make it quite a bit more strategic. I’m also really excited to see that Stone Daze can be played with up to 4 players, and I’ll be interested to see how the experience differs from a 2-player game!
Stone Daze looks like a blast, and it’s got hilarious looking components that capture the fun theme really well (the little clubs and “bump on the head” markers are downright adorable… not something I thought I’d say about a game of cavepeople smashing each other to oblivion… haha!) If you guys want to check it out, take a gander at the Kickstarter page – as of posting this, it’s got just 14 days left!
Until next time, gang. Keep it plucky,
