Hey, gang! This week’s Kickstarter Game of the Week is the charming Everdell by Starling Games!
Part of a perhaps coincidental trend of cute-animals-doing-epic-things games on Kickstarter (Root, Dawn of Peacemakers), Everdell delivers its promise of being a beautiful game of cards and critters. But perhaps even more exciting than the gorgeous woodland artwork is the awesome-looking 3D board! I think I turned into the heart-eye emoji the first time I saw it!
Everdell is a clever and innovative mash-up of worker placement and tableau building. Up to four players go head to head, taking turns either a) placing a worker which lets them gather resources, draw cards into their hand, or other beneficial actions; or b) playing a card which allows them to build their city.
I’ve been a huge fan of 7 Wonders for awhile now, and Everdell looks similar in its mechanics, with quite a bit of creative additions. I backed at the Collector’s Edition level because, well… who can say no to a card expansion and more stretch goals??
But perhaps one of the coolest aspects of Everdell is the story. A well-designed and fun game is great, but if you can really get into the world of that game, then all the better. Everdell definitely looks like the kind of game I could get lost in.
As of writing this, there’s just 11 short days left in the campaign, so be sure to check out Everdell on Kickstarter! Until next time, gang. Keep it plucky!
